Survivor Lives!
A new leg of the tour began with this show, and the third band on the tour is now Survivor. They were great! I didn't get the exact sequence of songs they played, but I was surprised at how many of them I knew so well! Among others, they played High On You, The Search Is Over, I Can't Hold Back, a newer song called Burning Bridges, and of course Eye of the Tiger as their last song.
People were still filing into their seats while Survivor was playing, but the audience gave them a good response, clapping and singing along. There were two women in Styx t-shirts a few rows back in the center who were standing and clapping, and one seemed to know all the words to every song. Jimi, the lead singer, definitely noticed them and appreciated it!
Opening bands always have a challenge getting a rise out of the audience, but Survivor really won everyone over by the end of their set and had the crowd on their feet. They're a great addition to the tour!
Between sets, I looked back, and a few rows behind me was a friend of mine, Ruth. She is my "six degrees of separation" link to Styx - her brother's boss used to be in a band way back when with Dave Amato of REO!
