Sam Moore, Soul Man

Next was Sam Moore. He was great. He came out in plain white pants, a sweatshirt that had a depiction of the World Trade Center towers and the words "We Remember," and a Port Authority Police baseball cap, and just blew everyone away with his voice, singing "The Tennessee Waltz." When he began his next song, "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby," Tommy came out on stage to sing with him. There was no big fanfare, no spotlight, and no explosion of applause, it was just a very natural thing, which was great. Edith tapped me on the shoulder and said, "There's Tommy." As soon as she said that, I was aware of whispers and voices all around me, people all saying the same thing to their companions. The next thing I noticed was that most of the people whose names I mentioned on the last page, all suddenly had cameras up to their faces. As, obviously, did I!

Sam Moore duet!

I guess it seemed like there was too much fun going on, because the next thing we knew, more Styx members came onstage, along with REO, John Waite, Mark Farner, and anyone who wanted to join in! After one song, everyone started to file offstage, but Sam said, "Where you going? Don't go nowhere!" So everyone stayed and joined in on a few more!

next thing you know... ...everyone is in on it!

By the time they finished up with "Dance To The Music," several Port Authority officers had also joined in and were dancing and singing, and ended by draping Sam with a uniform coat. A great and gracious performer, and a great way to wrap up the first half of the show!

everybody sing... ...and dance!

After Sam left the stage, the house band was introduced and got to take their bows. They did a great job all night! Also, several of the band members came out with some Port Authority officers to present a painting that was donated.

Sam joins the PAPD for the evening Let's hear it for the All-Star House Band!
