I know you!
Speaking of people standing, it was great when I looked around to see so many people I know from Styx shows. I mentioned earlier how many people I saw in line that I knew. A lot of them were sitting - or more accurately, NOT sitting - right near me! Over to my right were Laura and Lori; right across the aisle from me and up front were Tom and Sandy; of course next to me were Jen, Edith and Micky; at the other end of our aisle I saw Stacy; in front of her were Dixie, Chris, Maggie and Tina; up in front in our section was Lizzy; over to my left in front were Helen and Chris; not far behind them were Karin and Vicky; and then behind them were Queenie and Linda! (Please excuse any omissions or misspellings!) During the first half of the show, there was no time between performers to visit with other people, but since we seemed to be the ones standing, I did get to wave across the aisles at people I knew! It was like being at a big party with a lot of friends and really great entertainment!
Next up was Survivor. Not actually the entire band, but Frankie Sullivan and Jimi Jamison, backed by the house band. During "Can't Hold Back," Jimi had a young lady come up from the front row and sing a duet with him - go Lizzy! I had to grab my camera and get a shot of that!
Survivor's other special guest, during "Eye Of The Tiger," was Aaron Carter! Strange but true!
After that came Mark Farner. The sound and lighting were kind of... well... let's just say not the best for a lot of the night. Glen, being the musical director, had his hands full trying to make things run smoothly. Several people who were over on stage right have told me that they saw him having a really hard time trying to get things done, but I didn't see any of it, which tells me he's classy enough to throw just enough of a fit to get things done without causing a major scene. However, the fact that Glen is a professional and a class act is not news.
The same can be said for Mark Farner. He began his performance back at the keyboard, where the microphone wasn't really working at first and where the spotlight never did seem to find him. But he kept on going and put on a great show anyway! After the first song, he did come out to the front of the stage!
Next, Felix Cavaliere (of The Rascals) was up. Luckily the spotlights made it back to the keyboard this time! He and the house band played a lot of his hits. Around this time, someone finally came and sat in the empty second row seats in front of us - Derek St. Holmes! He sat there and escaped notice for a while, but then had to get up and dance with everyone else during "Good Lovin'"!
My picture of the back of Derek St. Holmes' head. Yes, I'm a goof!
