Kansas
When it got really close to show time, we went in and found our seats. Edith, Valerie, Kelly and I were over on the right (stage left), in the front row. Now trust me, I would never complain about being in the front row, and I'm not complaining now. But with the stage being so tall, the seats being so close, and Kansas setting up their equipment several feet back from the edge of the stage like most bands, it was hard to see them for a lot of their show, especially if we were sitting! We tried to stand several times, but everyone else kept sitting down, so we did too. Why annoy the people behind us so early in the evening? I also didn't try and take any pictures at all. Why annoy security so early in the evening either?
Kansas sounded really good - the harmonies were great! Except for Robby Steinhardt (violinist and one of the lead singers), they didn't move around the stage a lot, so the audience seemed to take a while to get into the show. At one point in the show, I glanced around the crowd to see how many people were standing, and I think I could have told you the name of just about every person who was up and cheering. Styx fans don't like to sit! On the more well-known songs though, most people did stand and do some singing along. "Point of Know Return" and "Dust In The Wind," of course, got great audience reactions! Finally during the last song of the encore, "Carry On Wayward Son," everyone was up. As they were saying good night, I could see big smiles from the band, especially Robby, Rich Williams and Steve Walsh.
