Haven't We Been Here Before?
Thursday night, and I find myself getting ready for the second Styx show in two nights! Having a laptop with me on this trip was great, but it didn't do much for my time management. While I was getting dressed for the show, I was chatting with two people at the same time! One finally came to the conclusion that I was crazy for going to see "the same show twice in a row" - but as I pointed out, it's different every time! They played a new song on Wednesday and you never know what they'll add in - and as I also asked, do you know what JY is going to wear tonight? No you don't - so how can it be the same show? I ask you.
I got to the casino in plenty of time. Everyone I saw in the parking lot seemed to be on their way to the pavilion, but no one knew how to get there! A quick stop for directions and we were there. The Uncas Pavilion is a new arena at the Mohegan Sun casino. It's very nicely done, but somehow seems like a huge white tent that just got tossed up in the parking lot! The floor inside is pavement in a lot of places, and the upper sections are on scaffolding (very secure but still scaffolding) covered by heavy duty plastic. I think this venue is still a work in progress! The restrooms, for example, are still outdoors in big trailers. However, I did overhear one woman say to a friend, quite sincerely, that they were "the nicest port-a-potties" she ever saw!
My seat was up in the third row for this show, in front of Tommy's mike. I walked around a little before I went up and took my place at about 7:45. There were lots of security people stationed at the end of each section, in the aisles, and up against the stage. The security staffers up at the stage were bopping along to the Beatles songs playing as the crew got the stage ready, so that was a good sign that the security staff might be pretty cool!
