Ridin' the storm out
And speaking of the stories, I did find what Kevin said about "Time For Me To Fly" interesting. I had always noticed the unusual way he plays the guitar during that song - instead of putting his fingertips on the fretboard, he basically wraps his thumb around the neck of the guitar. He said this was because he was using someone else's guitar when he wrote the song, and the guy had his guitar tuned really strangely, and the only way he could figure out to play it was just reach around and play everything with his thumb!
The wind whipped around like mad during REO's entire set. We had been looking at the lighting rig earlier, watching it swing back and forth, and it kept doing that. Good thing the people in charge of putting that up are good at their jobs!
The staff people were strict about enforcing their odd rules - if you were standing in the aisle for even a second, they were on you to get back to your seat. However, crossing in front of the stage repeatedly? (I only did it once!) No problem - you could be anywhere you wanted, just "KEEP MOVING!" When Kevin sat at his piano during "Keep On Lovin' You" near the end of their show, I wanted to take a picture but couldn't see him from my seat, so I walked down about 10 rows and turned around to take a picture. Before I could snap it, the woman from the front of the aisle was halfway to me to corral me back where I belonged!
REO played a fantastic show and got a great response from the crowd. Thanks guys!
