Crystal Ball
At the other Styx shows I have been to on this tour, Styx was the only band or the only headlining band playing, so the guys had time to talk to the audience more. At this show they didn't spend a lot of time introducing the songs, but they still did interact with the audience a lot. Tommy shortened the introduction he usually gives to "Crystal Ball" and just told us a story about how, once upon a time in the past, he actually did have a crystal ball. He said that one day he picked it up, shook it, and it said "In the year 2000, Captain Kirk will be on television with his own band, singing 'Two Tickets To Paradise' by Eddie Money." Well, Tommy said, he looked at that and said to himself, "This thing is broken!" and chucked it!
OH YEAH! Next was "Miss America". Glen spent a lot of this song over in "my spot" and I give him a lot of credit for drawing my attention away from JY even for a second, but he did it! It was probably a good thing that I did pay a bit of attention to Glen, because the way he jumps around, I had to duck once or twice so that he wouldn't rap me in the head with a tuning peg! Not that I am complaining - a person does not put herself right up against the edge of the stage unless she is ASKING to be rapped in the head with a tuning peg (this is a well-known corollary to the shoe-touching theorem stated earlier). Glen also handed picks to a few more people, including Jen. I believe she ended up getting two picks from him before the night was over! Lawrence is very good during this song too - acts up a lot, takes Polaroids with his Tazmanian Devil camera, and generally puts on a good little show of his own! That being said though, JY owns the stage for this song, especially my little part of it, which he did visit! I didn't get many pictures of JY and I didn’t get any while he was standing right in front of me. There was that lack of brain function issue that I mentioned before, and besides, the view was just too overpowering, especially with the spotlight directly behind his head, creating a brilliant white outline around an already imposing figure towering above me. Let me just summarize by saying - WOW.
