Hello, girls
Sometimes it's not such a bad thing being the only ones bothering to stand up (or sit all crunched up on a table) at the edge of the stage - you get attention! Later, back in our room, Micky decided to quiz me, and she told Karen she wasn't allowed to answer. Micky pointed at me and asked, "Did Lawrence take a Polaroid of JY during "Miss America" tonight?" I knew he had, but I also knew what she meant, and I had to confess that I didn't see him take it! I usually like to watch the Polaroid being taken and see who gets it, but tonight I had missed it. Karen asked why I didn't know, and Micky told her that right about the time that verse started, Tommy strolled up to the edge of the stage in front of Micky, Laura and me, said, "Hello, girls," and went down on his knees to play his guitar right in front of us. Gotta admit - that's a little distracting! It was funny that Micky asked me that later, because at the time I remember thinking - hey, I missed the Polaroid Moment! I didn't miss it by that much though, because I did see that one of the Solid Gold Dancers ended up with that picture - I think.
I ended up with some stuff too - handed to me luckily, since I can't catch! A pick from JY, and Glen's new pick - Freebo! I was told later that he picked Freebo while looking for one-name bass players. Freebo played with Bonnie Raitt, among others. I was also very surprised when at the end of the set, JY faked throwing a beach ball out over his head, then bent down and handed it to me! The fake-out fooled me this time! Thanks for everything, guys! And yes, Micky was able to flag down Todd, and he gave a drumstick to son of "No Rules!"
When it came time to give away the group Polaroid, Lawrence was trying to entice some of the women to "earn" the picture. I don't think it worked as he meant it to, but a young man in the front did stand up on his chair and lift his shirt up to his neck! Strangely enough, he didn't get the Polaroid!
Laura had a drum head with her that over several shows, everyone had signed except for Glen. At the end of the show, she had the drum head ready, and when Glen came by, she handed it to him with a Sharpie. Unfortunately, the Sharpie didn't work! I heard her say something about the pen not working, and I said, "Hold this!" I slammed my beach ball into her hands (both of them!) and attacked my pocketbook looking for a Sharpie, dumping half of the contents onto the floor in the process. But it was worth it - I came up with a working Sharpie, and Glen came back and completed her collection of signatures! And thanks, John, for helping me clean up after the show! (There are batteries on the floor, are these yours? There's a lip gloss on the floor, is this yours? There's a pack of Listerine strips on the floor, is this yours? Oh my God, what's THIS? Just kidding!)
