The chat circle with a twist
Once we got to our hotel, we went ahead and changed and got ready for the show that night, and headed over to Caesar's Palace. Karen needed to pick up her tickets, so the first thing we did was head to the venue's will call area. While we were waiting, Micky and Kim and I stood over at the foot of the stairs leading up to the actual venue, talking. Almost immediately, one of them said, "Oh, there's Lawrence." I turned around and sure enough, there was Lawrence, walking down the stairs! He came over to talk with us, and when Karen got her tickets, she joined us. He always asks where people are from, and when I told him New Hampshire, he had to stop and think again about where that is. After a couple of geographic clues ("north of Boston?") he had it, and then said, "Oh, where the first primary is, right?" He is nothing if not unpredictable!
After a few minutes, some people came up to us and asked us if we were in the will call line. As we were talking, we had gradually moved into the typical "circle around the campfire" formation, and didn't notice we were kind of blocking the way! Lawrence said to them, "Oh, no, we're just standing here talking!" I had to wonder if those people were picking up tickets to the Styx show tonight and were completely oblivious of who they had just had to move out of their way!
We stood there and chatted a while longer, listening to Lawrence and his funny stories, then he moved on to the coffee shop and went on his way. I just thought it was great that there we were, as usual, hanging around before the show in a circle, yapping, and Lawrence came along and just fit right in!
