Home away from home

Walking into the civic center, into a third arena in a third state within a span of six days, I got an odd but comfortable feeling, as if I could be anywhere. It was probably as close as I will get to knowing what it feels like to actually be on tour. The travel between shows was a faded blur, any mishaps or inconveniences completely forgotten, geographic differences non-existent. As far from home as I was, I was right at home.

I got very lucky for this show and was in the front row! I talked a little with the people next to me, who turned out to be on the Styxworld bulletin board too, but this time they were not people I knew. Cool people though, as I usually find with Styx fans!

Survivor - band

Survivor opened this show, and they were great! They put on a great show, and they really rev up the crowd. Sometimes opening bands have a hard time winning over the audience, but Styx and REO fans are perfectly willing to cheer on another band as long as they rock - and Survivor does! They seem to have picked up the vibe very quickly that this is a fun tour to be on.

Security at this show, at least at my end of the stage, was very fan friendly. The seating arrangement is a little different from most places - there are no center aisles at all in the first few rows, so security doesn't have to stand in the middle of the row up by the stage. They stand on the sides, and anyone trying to get up to the stage has to pass them. They were pretty easygoing, and let some people stand in the side aisle and dance. They even let people go up in the space between the front row and the stage for a few minutes, and people would go up and dance or possibly snag a guitar pick, then go back before security had to come and get them. There's always your token idiot in the mix, but for the most part, people are there to see the show and are pretty considerate of the others around them. There weren't many cameras, but I did take mine as usual, and had no problems and no complaints.
