A different spin
This was a slightly different show than previous shows I've seen, simply because of the fact that the world had changed as of a little over a week ago. A lot of people in the audience had brought flags, and there were spontaneous chants of "USA" between some of the songs. Tommy thanked everyone for coming out and giving them the chance to play, and said "I'm glad you're enjoying it, because it means the world to us." He also said that it was really good to get out of the house right now, because "the TV would be in the swimming pool if I were still at home!" When introducing "Crystal Ball," he mentioned that these days everything seemed to have a different spin and meaning.
Before introducing "Lady," Lawrence talked about the Statue of Liberty, and dedicated the song to "the statue still standing in New York Harbor and everything she represents." Glen mentioned before singing "Love Is The Ritual" how music could be healing and could lift the spirits, and JY led a couple of the "USA" chants as well as pointing out that although Styxworld was recorded all around the world, there's no place like home! Lawrence also thanked everyone for coming out and said "It means so much to us to see you express your freedom this way." They also played "Suite Madame Blue," which they had not played live for a while until the past few shows, and that got a huge response from the crowd.
Please don't think the show was all serious, though - it was a blast! It was just more emotional in every direction, and I think that was a feeling that was common throughout the band and the audience. We were able to smile together and laugh together and release tension and rock out - it was great.
