The jig is up...
For their encore, they play a verse of ZZ Top's "Tush", and then go into "Renegade." I mentioned before that at this show I was in the third row, three seats in from the aisle, and security was pretty strict about keeping people in their seats. Well, sometime during the first part of this song is when a security guy came by with a modification of that plan! What happened is that I saw out of the corner of my eye that the woman standing next to me suddenly bolted. I turned and looked in her direction and saw the security guy, who had already moved to the next row, tap the person on the aisle on the shoulder and kind of motion behind his back to go on up if they wanted to. Well I have no idea if he really meant for the entire row to go or not but hey - not only do you not have to ask me twice, sometimes you don’t have to ask me once! I don’t know exactly when this happened, but it was between the first verse and the solo, because by the solo, I was up at the front of the stage!
There was a big crowd around Tommy's mike (I guess he was singing at the time.. I’M SORRY TOMMY.. I don't know!!!!) so I went a little further toward the center, halfway to JY's mike, where there was only one layer of people at the stage in front of me. Did not push my way in front of anyone - I promise! So there I was, took out my camera and got off a few more incredible shots and finished up my roll of film. I had one more roll but I wasn't going to spend this last few minutes loading it, so I put the camera away for the night.
When they started to get into the musical break and Tommy was talking to the crowd, JY and Glen went over to the side of Todd's drum kit, stage right, and Lawrence picked up his Taz Polaroid camera (it's a Polaroid camera that's shaped like the Tazmanian Devil's head - the photo comes out of his mouth) and went over towards Tommy. After one of the times when Tommy says "Lemme hear you say YEAH!" Lawrence flipped the camera open so Taz's mouth flew open to go "YEAH" along with the audience! Then Lawrence looked at Tommy and motioned toward the camera, so Tommy said, "You want to take my picture now?" Lawrence said to him, "Yeah, give me the Tommy Shaw Rock Star pose, the one in all the posters!" So Tommy put his hands on his hips and stuck out his lips in a big pout, and Lawrence laughed and took his picture. Then Lawrence started to hold the picture out to Tommy, and he motioned back at himself, and it's really hard to describe, so just trust me that he was kind of acting out asking Tommy for money for the photo. Tommy said "No no no no - you got to - giveitaway now, giveitaway now" - and JY and Glen and Todd switched the music for a few beats of Red Hot Chili Peppers! VERY cute and funny! Lawrence picked a girl from the front to give the photo to, and she reached up to take it from him, and kind of pulled on his arm, and he let her pull him down and give him a kiss. He looked at her and then at the camera, with a smile kind of like… oh… I can get kisses for these? He started to take another picture of himself, for another trade presumably, then changed his mind, smiled and went on.
Back into "Renegade", the boys wrapped up the song and left everyone on their feet and screaming! Another amazing show!
