And now, REO!
I may sometimes sound like I don't properly appreciate REO Speedwagon. I do think they're great and they put on a fantastic show. It's just that after a Styx show, I am pretty much overwhelmed! REO did put on an excellent show though, and the crowd loved them! After the Styx show, people seemed to figure out that sometimes people on stage throw things, and the guitar picks that got tossed out were all squabbled over like pieces of raw meat in a cage of starving animals. Valerie and I just stepped back out of the way a couple of times so we wouldn't be knocked down. I like souvenirs too, but I have never understood why people will hurt each other for a little piece of plastic.
There was a fan - the kind that blows air, not the kind that buys tickets - set up in front of center stage, blowing onto the stage. During the Styx show I didn't notice it much except to be annoyed that it was blocking my view of Lawrence, but it wasn't turned on then. It was on for the REO set though, and I didn't notice it much then either until it stopped working during the acoustic set when Kevin was singing "Time For Me To Fly." Talk about annoyed - Kevin walked up and kicked it! He started the song over and went from there, but I don't think the fan started working again!
The REO show was great - sorry I didn't get to take any pictures! I actually did have more batteries with me. I had brought an extra set, but they were in case the first pair completely ran down, not in case they got confiscated! The security guys didn't look like they were in any mood to give me a second chance, so I didn't even try to take any more pictures. My camera stayed in my bag the rest of the night.
By the end of the show, people had gotten the whole "standing up" thing, and everyone was on their feet! Great show by both bands!
