Pre-pre-show
It's hard to know where to start this story. For me, going to this show was kind of hitting the ground running in the middle of an adventure in progress! At the last moment, I had decided to go to Glen's solo show at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey, on July 3rd. (It was fantastic!) When I got back to New Hampshire on the 4th after a drive home that was much more excitement than I needed, I picked up my sister Valerie and my friend Kelly at the airport. I said I didn't travel a long distance for this show, but I didn't say no one else did!
We went out to watch fireworks on a very hot and steamy 4th of July evening, then on the 5th did some shopping and some unplanned moose watching! If you wonder where we went to see a moose, well, my living room actually! The three of us were in my living room, that is; the moose was trotting up the street in front of my house! Did I mention I live very near, if not exactly in, the middle of nowhere?
On Saturday the 6th, Edith and Judi arrived at my house so we could all ride up together. I called Meadowbrook before we left to see what the latest word was on whether cameras would be allowed. This venue supposedly goes by the performer's preference, but when I called, they said "no cameras." I gave them my usual "are you sure, because this band always allows cameras," but the woman I spoke to said she hadn't heard of any changes to the usual policy, and I could try calling closer to show time to check. In short, their default is no, so even if the band said okay, unless somehow word got out to every single security person, you'd probably get a hassle about bringing a camera.
So of course I took two cameras. Hey, it makes sense - this is the place where last year they thought my digital was a video camera, so I thought I might cause less of a stir with the 35mm. However, if I got there and they would have allowed the digital and I had left it home, I'd be annoyed with myself. So I had to bring it just in case. Well, it made sense to me anyway!
