The radio played that forgotten song
The drive out was great - there are radio stations in Fargo and Bismarck, both nicknamed the Fox, that play classic rock and were promoting the shows. Except for switching from one station to the other when I went out of range, I didn't have to reach for the radio dial at all! Boston, Foghat, CCR, BTO, Cream, and of course the highway classic, "Radar Love." I love it when you find yourself singing along word for word with lyrics you had no idea you had ever committed to memory. I had to smile about how some of the lyrics to "Long Time" were so perfectly appropriate to my trip and its purpose, complete with unintentional Styx and REO lyric references: "It's been such a long time, I think I should be going / Time doesn't wait for me, it keeps on rolling / Sail on, on a distant highway / I've got to keep on chasing a dream, I've gotta be on my way..."
The actual driving was a dream. Usually when I'm on a trip like this, my driving directions are 127 steps long, and approximately 34 of those steps say, "bear left slightly onto unnamed road". The directions for this trip were, "Get in car. Get on I-94. Drive 189 miles. Stop car." North Dakota - my kind of place!
